Education in the UK is internationally recognized for its quality and variety. The UK's top priority is to pursue the highest possible standards and to ensure access to good education for every child, young person and citizen.

There are two types
of schools in the UK.

More than 90% of students in the UK attend state schools. All state schools in Britain are free.

The other 7% attend private or public schools. They are boarding schools where children live as study. Public schools are very expensive. A public school is an independent secondary school.. The entrance exams are known as Common Entrance exams.The most famous public schools are Eton, Harrow and Winchester.

Children start primary school at the age of 5.
In fact primary school consists of infant and junior school. In junior school pupils spend 5 years. Primary schools usually include both girls and boys as pupils.

At the age of 11 children enter the secondary school.
They study English, Maths, Science, Design and technology, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical education and foreign languages.

At secondary school pupils study for 5 years. At the age of 16 students take their GCSE.
