Содержание слайда: The Commonwealth Games (aka the British Empire Games 1930–1950, the British Empire and Commonwealth Games 1954–1966, British Commonwealth Games 1970–1974) is an international, multi-sport event involving athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations.

Содержание слайда: History of the Games First proposed in 1891, as a "Pan-Britannic-Pan-Anglican Contest and Festival every four years as a means of increasing goodwill and good understanding of the British Empire". In 1911, Inter-Empire Championships were held as part of the festival dedicated to the King George V coronation: teams from Australia, Canada, South Africa, and the UK competed in boxing, wrestling, swimming, and athletics. In 1930, Hamilton, Ontario, first British Empire Games. Six sports: athletics, aquatics (swimming and diving), boxing, lawn bowls, rowing and wrestling. Women competed in swimming only.
